Joe Whittaker

Joe was killed whilst serving in Afghanistan on 24th June.
Vicar James Warren says "We are all feeling devastated.  Joe had a wide series of contacts in Stratford - he was in the hockey club, the Territorial Army, he went to Warwick School and Stratford College.  He just knew so many people.  A huge following of young people turned up to pay tribute to him at the evening that was held in church  on Friday 27th June.  It was an evening of getting together to support each other and was a very moving and emotional time.   I think a lot of people drew strength from it."
Joe's funeral will be on Friday 11th July at 12 noon.
Our sincere sympathy goes to his mother Naomi, his sister Kate,  and his grandparents, in their tragic loss.

2007 Christmas Fair raised over £1,130.  - Well done everyone!

HERITAGE WEEKEND 7th, 8th, 9th September 2007.
St. Andrew's took part for the first time in National Heritage Weekend. On Friday evening, Rosemary & Larry Robson organised "Milestones in Music" by the choir and musicians, with music and readings from 1870 (when the church was built) to the present day. Soloists were Fiona Macvie, Barry Juckes and Bob Wright, with Sue Wain on Flute, Larry Robson on Clarinet, and accompanist Rosemary Robson.  Jeffrey Dench caused much amusement as he delivered readings from Betjeman, Rupert Brooke and Laurie Lee.
On Saturday the church was open for visitors to explore some of the history and interesting snippets of information; photographs and memorabilia from over the years was also on display which brought back many memories.  Visitors were reminded of the huge achievement of previous generations in acknowledging the role of faith, and God's creative energy, in the inspiration of the building of St. Andrew's, which has given a lasting memorial.
On Sunday morning the Vicar, James Warren, spoke about  and preached on the themes of the stained glass windows - the north window, the Mary & Martha window, given in 1931 in memory of Emily Evans;  and the west window decicting the calling of St. Andrew which was given by the children of Benjamin and Frances Bucknall in 1931. Alan Bucknall, grandson of the above, and his daughter Rosalind, travelled to be with us for the occasion and he very kindly donated his family tree for our archives.  If you would like to hear the Vicar's sermon please click here

Evening Worship took the form of Heritage Praise which themed towards The Word. During the service copies each of the Old Testament, New Testament, a Lectionary and a Book of Spiritual Readings "Celebrating the Saints" were presented.  The latter book was dedicated in memory of Revd. Lionel Daffurn who was a much loved retired priest who was part of St. Andrew's for many years. Carole Taylor regaled us with tales of her life at St. Andrew's  - she has been a regular member since before she was born!
It is hoped that this weekend will become an annual event so that we can build on what has been learned, and are continuing to learn.

FLOWER FESTIVAL
"Celebrating St. Andrew"
with the Avon Evening Flower Club
18, 19, 20 May 2007

It was an amazing weekend of Fun, Flowers and Fantastic Food
as the community enjoyed the "Celebrating  St. Andrew's" Flower Festival.  The Avon Evening Flower Club had creatively and skillfully depicted the life of St. Andrew's Church as well as some of the organisations who use the Centre.
The Preveiw on the Friday evening was pure magic, the ambience of the building adding to the splendour of the flowers;  the Delphinium String Quartet serenading the guests, and a sumptuous supper.
The annual garden fete on the Saturday was well attended with many visitors enjoying the flowers on that day and the Sunday.
Special Preacher at the 10am Worship was Revd. Canon Roger Spiller, Director of Ordinands.
Evening Worship was prepared and led by Housegroup whose Celtic theme of Creation was a fitting end to a splendid weekend of fellowshiping, fund raising and flowers.
The choir were honoured at this service to sing the premiere of Norman Warren's  "Celtic Pilgrim's Prayer" which he has especially composed for them.
The weekend raised over. £4,000

Sunday 13th March 2005 was a day of great excitement for us all at St. Andrew's.  Our long awaited extended church was complete and ready for us to rejoice in and celebrate.  A congregation of nearly 200 entered the church "as one" for the 10am Service.  During the Service presentations were made to John Holmes and his wife Jenny.  John had been St. Andrew's Architect for about 12 years and was very instrumental in the building of the Centre as well as the extended church.   He has recently retired and he and Jenny are off to Mozambique to be missionaries.
A presentation was also made to Tim Wightman for his leadership and enthusiasm on both the Centre and the Open House projects;  also to Alan Edwards who acted as Site Manager for this latest projet.
This extended building is not the end.... it is the beginning.
Bishop Colin dedicated  the "new" Church on Sunday 10th April 2005 at 3pm.
