On a lovely sunny summer's morning at about 9.15am twenty five people listened excitedly as the Vicar of Barford, Revd. David Jessett took them through a quick rehearsal of the service that was about to take place. By 10am two hundred people had taken their seats and so began a wonderful service, that not only included the renewal of Baptism by those about to be Confirmed, but the whole of the congregation being reminded of the joy of making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. The choir sang a beautiful arrangement of "Jubilate Deo" by Benjamin Britten.
After addressing the candidates and asking them about their decision to turn to Christ and reject evil, Bishop Christopher Cocksworth lead them to the font where he thoroughly enjoyed using a branch of rosemary dipped in water from the font to flick water over anyone and everyone within reach. They all returned to their seats for a hymn and then starting with the eight people from St. Andrew's, came forward and stood facing the congregation for the Confirmation with James our Vicar standing behind each one in turn to introduce them to the Bishop, who anointed them with oil and then laid hands on their head invoking the Holy Spirit to come into their life to help them on their Christian journey.
May I encourage you to pray for Alice, Joanna, Gary, Edna, Sylvia, Rebecca, Sue and Denise as they continue walking in the faith of Christ.
