Good Friday 2011

Good Friday 2011.

Having prepared and led the Good Friday Procession of Witness through the streets of Stratford, parishioners returned to St. Andrew’s for “Reflections at the Cross of Jesus” – a series of three half hour meditations.

Seating had been turned to the south window overlooking the trees and nature, with the ancient wooden cross hanging from beams just in front of this window.  With the choir providing superb accompaniment to the proceedings throughout, the first session was led by Kay Dyer, our Reader who reflected on the passage from St. John’s Gospel chapter 18, verses 1-12 about the arrest of Jesus.    Curate Paul Edmondson led the second meditation reflecting on the next part of the Gospel, taking in Peter’s denial of Jesus and the questioning of Jesus by the High Priest. Vicar James Warren led the final meditation on the aftermath of the crucifixion.

Each meditation was followed by a period of silence to absorb the message, and each session ended with items by the choir which included “Go to dark Gethsemane” by Richard Redhead;  “A purple robe” by David Wilson and an awesome finale of “Agnus Dei” by Howard Goodall, with soloist Barry Juckes.
